Barbara Lanebrown

Executive Coach and Consultant on Communication and Transformation
Playwright, Director, Actor

Barbara has an MFA in theater from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her long career has spanned diverse roles on both sides of the footlights from actor, director and playwright to consultant, public speaker and fundraiser. She founded DramaSearch Production Co., Inc. and co-founded the Columbus Ensemble Theater. She traveled to Beijing in 1987, at the invitation of the Ministry of Culture, to work with theater professionals and scholars. As a playwright, she has fourteen produced plays to her credit.

After 30 years in theater, Barbara decided to get an MBA from the University of Chicago. With this, she moved to the "bigger stage of business" where she began sharing with others the tools from theater that she had created to help herself and other artists break through creative blocks. In her company Mastery, Incorporated, she is an executive coach for senior leaders and leadership teams in academia, business, medicine and the military. Drawing from her theater background, Barbara works with each client in a highly personalized manner to improve relationships and communications skills and to enhance leadership performance. She has worked with the Commandant of the Marine Corps, the Chief of Naval Operations, the Secretary of the Navy, Golden Rule Insurance Company, Virginia Commonwealth University, the Anderson School of Management at UCLA, Swedish American Hospital, Borden Corporation, Esquel Group in Hong Kong, and many others.

Barbara has an international reputation as a "teacher of teachers." She is known in academia for The Teaching Forum(TM), a program that enhances the teaching skills of university professors using insights gained from her theater background. Clients have included Stanford University, the University of Chicago, UCLA, MIT, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, the University of Minnesota, Macquarie University in Australia, and INSEAD in France.

Barbara's MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business is in behavioral science and business strategy. She is the recipient of numerous commendations, ranging from the Dean's Award for Distinction at the University of Chicago to an appointment by Defense Secretary Perry to serve on the DACOWITS (Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services).

Barbara's new business, Be More Not Less, LLC, provides programs on maintaining significant relationships for businesses and individuals.
